Your excursion begins with a drive through the majestic Koolau Mountain Range to the Windward side of Oahu. Our first stop takes you to a Cacao Farm where you will enjoy a 2-hour guided tour, especially fun for fruit and flower lovers as we stroll through the farm, stopping to taste the tropical fruits that are in season. Along the way, your guide will share our farm’s vision for creating sustainable diversified agriculture on Oahu and share the long agricultural history of this land to include many of the original "canoe crops" brought to Hawaii by the earliest voyagers. When we reach the cacao orchard, we cut open a ripe chocolate pod and pass it around for everyone to sample. We then move into our chocolate tasting tent, where you sit comfortably in the shade while we explain the post-harvest processing of cacao. As you may know, dark chocolate is actually a health food, and your guides explain its antioxidant and other health benefits, as well as discuss how chocolate is made. Chocolate Tasting Best of all, you’ll enjoy an extensive dark chocolate tasting with the delicious single- origin estate chocolate grown on our farm, compared with examples from all over the world that highlight the distinctive flavors found in craft chocolate. Like wine tasting, we teach you how to taste chocolate like a connoisseur. You’ll also learn about our Bee Farming that we have on our farm followed by a lite lunch. Our next stop before heading back to your hotel will be at the Manoa Chocolate in the Windward Town of Kailua. Your experience will be much like touring a microbrewery/winery. Participants taste fresh cacao fruit when in season, learn about the bean-to-bar manufacturing process, taste their collection with their team members of Chocolate Sommeliers, and enjoy a chocolate tea service. You will come away with a great appreciation for the growing craft chocolate movement as well as Hawaii’s emerging cacao and chocolate industry.
