Waikoloa Dry Forest – Hike, Explore & Restore
Available:
- Wednesday, February 11, 2026
Join us for a huaka‘i (guided hike) in the Waikoloa Forest Preserve where you can learn about Waikoloa and the unique lowland dry forest that we are working to restore. On the guided hike across the lava, you’ll see ancient wiliwili trees, lava tubes, sweeping views of Kohala, and kīpuka that have been revegetated with many native species by volunteers and Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative staff.
The Hawaiian value of Mālama ‘Āina, to take care of the land, is one that we hold in high regard and restoring our dry forest is not possible without the help from our community. Leave a lasting impact on the forest by removing invasive species & planting some trees! Every bit helps us achieve our goal of a self-sustainable dry forest ecosystem.
Conclude with refreshments at our Hana Hou Hale open-air pavilion. Tours will include walking over uneven terrain in exposed areas. The weather can be hot, dry, and occasionally very windy or rainy.
Timing:
- Meet with the MC&A Activity Staff at the LOWER LOBBY.
- Depart hotel: 7:45 a.m.
- Return to hotel: 12:15 p.m.
